How many new LEGO sets are released each year?
Based on the years 2020–2025, LEGO releases around 550 new sets per year across all themes (give or take a few dozen), not including promotional sets (GWPs), multi-set bundles, polybags offered with magazines, or LEGO-related merchandise (books, accessories, etc.).
When are new LEGO sets released?
LEGO releases new sets every month. Most are available on the 1st of the month, while a smaller number are released later in the month, sometimes with early access for members of the LEGO Insiders loyalty program.
The number of new sets varies greatly from one month to another. Months such as January, June, and August account for the majority of annual releases (several dozen or even many more), while other months typically see only a handful of sets, usually July, November, and December. For example, here is the number of new sets released each month in 2025:
- January: 179 sets
- February: 12 sets
- March: 57 sets
- April: 12 sets
- May: 26 sets
- June: 106 sets
- July: 8 sets
- August: 85 sets
- September: 38 sets
- October: 20 sets
- November: 7 sets
- December: 2 sets
When are new LEGO products added to the Temple of Bricks price comparison tool?
New LEGO products are automatically added to Temple of Bricks within hours of their release (or pre-order availability) on the official LEGO website. Minifigures are generally added within the month following the set’s release, once they receive a BrickLink ID, allowing our price comparison tool to find matching offers.
When is the best time to buy LEGO sets to get the best prices?
When sets are released, they are immediately available from LEGO and retailers (Amazon, Fnac, etc.) at the manufacturer’s recommended retail price. After a few weeks or months, retailers usually begin offering better prices, often around 20% off, and sometimes even more during sales events such as Black Friday.
It is therefore generally better to wait a little after a set’s release to get a better price, provided the set is available from retailers. Some sets are LEGO exclusives and cannot be found at other retailers, meaning they are rarely discounted. For these sets, waiting is usually not worthwhile: it is better to buy them on release day directly from LEGO, especially since their launch is often accompanied by a Gift With Purchase, a free set offered exclusively at that time and not sold separately. Feel free to check the list of LEGO exclusives directly on the manufacturer’s website.
