XX9 Turbolaser turret Lego Star Wars MOC
Presentation of the XX-9 turbolaser turret MOC by Brick2T
For this second article in the MOC section of the Temple of Bricks blog, we welcome new contributors, Tim and Thibault, aka Brick2T, who present their MOC of the XX-9 turret, a classic from the Star Wars universe that you can easily recreate to decorate your dioramas. Enjoy the read!
The origin of the project
I started some time ago the creation of a Star Wars The Clone Wars MOC: a clone base on Felucia.
The base needed to include a defensive cannon. As it is a construction completely independent from the rest of the MOC, I am presenting it in this article. You can find the full video of the complete MOC on our YouTube, or some photos on our Instagram.
The XX-9 heavy turbolaser turret
These XX-9 heavy turbolaser batteries were rotating batteries mounted on warships or certain installations. They were manufactured by Taim & Bak and mainly used by the Empire. These turrets had a range of 2.5 km. These exterior turrets notably appeared during the Clone Wars and the reign of the Empire on Republic and Imperial heavy cruisers as well as on the surface of both Death Stars. During the golden age of the Empire, these turrets cost up to 250,000 Imperial credits per unit.
The XX-9 turret MOC
When I decided to create a MOC of a defense turret, I started by building a classic prototype based on the photo above. I was lucky to already have almost all the parts I needed in my collection. What took me the most time were the cannons themselves and their lowering mechanism.
In conclusion: a MOC I am very satisfied with despite a few compromises
I am quite satisfied with my work on this MOC. The turret looks quite representative at first glance, and it didn’t take me long to build it (about 1 hour of actual building and 1 hour of 3D conceptualization). In the end, the final version fits perfectly into the base setting. The only minor drawback to note is my lack of physical parts, especially 1x6 and 2x6 tiles. However, the final 3D version is very satisfying. If you want to learn more about the building techniques and recreate this MOC at home, you can find the tutorial on our YouTube channel and in this video.
